Android OS Smartphones Dominate Consumer Smartphone Market

In an NPD Group press release, the Android Smartphone OS increased its market share to 53% during the 4th quarter of 2010. This is an increase of 9% from Q3 2010 which is a huge increase.

Here are a couple of highlights from NPD's press release:

  • Apple's iOS market share was 19%, down by 4%.
  • RIM was down 2% at 19%.
  • Windows Mobile is 4%.
  • Palm OS is 2%.

NPD also listed the top selling mobile phones in Q4 2010 which were all smartphones for the first time ever.

  1. Apple iPhone 4
  2. Motorola Droid X
  3. HTC EVO 4G
  4. Apple iPhone 3GS
  5. Motorola Droid 2
